Experience As a Jefferson County Commissioner and elected 2015 Chair of the Jeffco Commissioners, I help assure efficient, accountable government that’s responsive to citizen concerns. I have over 20 years of experience working from the inside out to make governmental entities more effective. I served as the Jeffco Audit Committee Chair and spent 24 years as CDOT Audit Director. Prior to joining CDOT, I owned an independent law practice located in Metro Denver.
I managed a medium size Denver law firm and I understand the challenges of running Colorado businesses, and the impact governmental regulations can have on business operations.
Civic Leadership I have always believed in giving back to the community. I currently serve on the advisory committees for Head Start/Jeffco Prosperity Project, Jefferson Center for Mental Health and Community Corrections Board.
Over the years, I have served on the board for Uplift Internationale, volunteered at the Mount Saint Vincent Home for abused and neglected Colorado children, as an executive committee member for a sports league, as a forensic coach for Mullen High School's moot court team, and at Our Lady of Fatima Parish.
Husband and Dad Family and community are very important to me. I have lived in Jefferson County for over 30 years, raising two boys with my wife. We chose to live in Jeffco because of its strong sense of community. I work every day to help preserve our community and to promote strong economic development without compromising the natural beauty that makes Jefferson County so special.
I moved to Jefferson County with my parents and three siblings on Thanksgiving weekend in 1976 and later graduated from Green Mountain High School. There were a few years during college at the University of Colorado and at law school when I lived outside the county, but I always knew I would return. My wife and I moved back to Jefferson County in 1989, settling in the Applewood neighborhood. We have lived in several Jeffco homes while raising our two boys, Kevin and Dugan. We are fortunate to have my Mother In Law, Dorothy, living with us in Applewood.
Outdoor Pursuits Like many Jeffco residents, I take advantage of the great recreational opportunities and scenic beauty right out my front door. I enjoy running (although over the years it has become more of a jog) along Jeffco's trails while taking in amazing views of Denver and the Rockies.
Most Jefferson County residents lead active lives and appreciate the diversity of recreational activities available - from kayaking and rock climbing to hiking and softball. I work with the people of Jeffco to preserve this quality of life.
Education My Jeffco roots run deep. After graduating from Green Mountain High School in 1978, I earned a B.S. from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I then completed a law degree at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where I met my wife. Upon graduation, we moved back to Jeffco and began practicing law for the citizens of Colorado.
